Closings

The Reading Terrace is now open with the coffee/tea cart available daily, sponsored by the Friends of GPL; next to the Main Desk.

Cossitt Craft Days: May 4, 6, 9 and 11. Head to the Children’s Room for books and crafts. This month features a cuddly caterpillar activity, while supplies last.
Miss Heather’s Mother’s Day Craft: Saturday, May 13, 3 – 4 p.m. A drop-in program for children to make a special gift for Mother’s Day.
Adults and Teens
Birds Have Wings: Bird Talk on Thursday, May 18, 2 – 3 p.m. at Cossitt Library. Bird Walk on Friday, May 19, 8 – 9 a.m. at Holcomb Farm (rain date May 20). John Weeks shares a new presentation for bird lovers of all ages. Learn more about the migratory patterns of various birds during Friday’s Bird Talk. Return Saturday morning for the much anticipated Bird Walk. Dress appropriately for light trail hiking; bring binoculars—a few extra pairs will be available to share. Registration required; limit 24.
Writers Group: Tuesday, May 9 and 23, 6 – 7:45 p.m. The group embraces writers of all genres. Come to work on your material with this interactive and friendly group every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Whether it’s a workshop or a critique session, you’ll find value and enjoy the support of fellow writers.

Corsages and Boutonnieres: Wednesday, May 3, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Need a corsage or boutonniere for a special event in your future? Learn how to make your own in this hands-on workshop. Registration recommended.
Butterflies in My Backyard: Wednesday, May 10, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Workshop, Holcomb Farm. Victor DeMasi‘s presentation will delight anyone with an interest in butterflies. He is a noted lepidopterist, wetland conservation officer, and research affiliate at Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. DeMasi has worked on historical painting/restoration projects for Yale University and natural history murals for the National Park Service. Topics will cover rare and common butterfly species, habitat, butterfly gardens, and much more. An impressive display of museum quality specimens will be on hand for viewing. Registration required; limit 50.
Teens
LOL: Wednesday, May 17, 12 to 3 p.m. Teens are welcome to stop by the library to study, laugh, game, chill or connect with friends.
Children
Zumba, ages 5–11: Saturday, May 13, 10 a.m. Move it to music with instructor Amy Thompson. Please register for this fun-filled session in advance, as space is limited to 12 participants.
Family Movie Nights, all ages: Wednesdays, May 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 beginning at 6 p.m. Take a break and enjoy a family-friendly movie. We’ll provide the popcorn. Movie titles will be announced one week in advance. No advance registration necessary.
Wee Ones, birth to 2 years: Thursdays, May 4, 11, 18 and 25, 10:30 – 11 a.m. Board books, nursery rhymes, songs and gentle movement for babies and toddlers with a caregiver. Drop in.
Preschool Story Time, ages 3–5: Tuesdays, May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Children with a caregiver share stories, songs, finger plays and a craft with Miss Joan. No registration required; drop-ins welcome.
Craft Week, all ages: Monday to Saturday, May 15 – 20. Drop in any time during the week and create a craft project to take home.
