An application seeking a Special Permit to sell alcoholic beverages at 9 Mill Pond Drive that was received at the April 26 Planning & Zoning meeting, was reviewed at the May 10 meeting. The attorney for the new Tiger Belly Restaurant represented the applicant and stated the case for the alcohol permit. The restaurant plans to serve Chinese cuisine on its menu and accommodate table seating for 15 people, as well as seating at a sushi bar. The permit included a stipulation that the restaurant serve only beer and wine to patrons also placing a food order, but the commission felt that the stipulation wasn’t necessary and moved to accept the application.
Also at its May 10 meeting, the commission discussed the State Department of Transportation’s proposed major intersection improvements on Route 10/202 at the intersections of Route 20 and Route 189 in the center of town as well installing a roundabout at the intersection of Route 10/202 at East Street and Notch Road. At this time, though, there is nothing further to report regarding the proposal.
At its April 26 meeting, P&Z heard a request for an application seeking a Special Permit to construct a barn / garage in excess of 600 square feet for property located at 114 East Street. The landowner explained that the 1850s-styled barn would aesthetically fit in with the other structures currently on the property. The barn will mainly be used for storage and there are currently no plans to live in the structure. There are also no plans to move a yoga studio on the property into the barn. The permit was approved.
The commission also heard a request from an applicant seeking a Special Permit to construct a barn/garage in excess of 1,000 square feet on property located at 239 Salmon Brook Street. It was important to the owners that the proposed structure was not only aesthetically attractive, but blended in with their home in the historic district. The owners chose a 36-feet-wide and 22-feet-deep, 1.5-story country barn, built by Country Carpenters. It will be constructed behind the applicants’ home, 20 feet from the property line of 245 Salmon Brook Street and will mainly be used as a garage to store items such as lawn equipment, bikes, etc. The commission approved the permit.
The commission also discussed a concern that Small Town Septic’s landscaping at 168 Hungary Road isn’t consistent with the appearance of the surrounding area. The owner has plans to install a water irrigation system to restore the look of the area and also plans to replace some of the trees on the property.
