The focus of the Social Service Department is to coordinate existing federal, state, regional and local services, to increase community awareness of these services and to develop new programs to meet the needs of Granby residents. Winter Protection Program: Participants in this program should note that Winter Protection ends on April 30. Participants should make payment arrangements with Eversource.
Granby Emergency Fuel Bank: Please call the office for additional information and for eligibility screening. The Granby Emergency Fuel Bank is funded solely by donations and gifts from the community. If you wish to donate, please make the check payable to the Town of Granby Local Assistance Fund with a notation that it is intended for the Fuel Bank.
Granby Food Bank: This community service is offered by the VNA to any family or individual who may need assistance in meeting daily living expenses, particularly due to loss of income or Medicare/Medicaid limitations. Please contact the Social Service office for eligibility screening and registration.
Elderly and Disabled Rent Relief: Applications will be accepted in the Human Services Office from May 1, through Sept. 15. Qualifying renters may apply this year even if they did not receive a check from the program last year. Maximum income guidelines are: Married Couple–$42,200; Single–$34,600. Additional local benefits may be available. Contact the Human Services Office for information. Applicants must provide proof of income and rental and utility expenses from 2014.
Elderly and Disabled Homeowners’ Property Tax Relief: Applications will be accepted in the Assessor’s Office through May 15. Maximum income guidelines for the state program are: Married Couple–$42,200; Single–$34,600. Additional local benefits may be available. Contact the Assessor’s Office at 860-844-5311 for information.
Cox Communications Senior Citizen Discount Programs: A 15 percent discount on Cox Limited Basic Service is offered to qualified seniors. Discounts on telephone service may also be available through the Lifeline Program. Households must be eligible for a state-administered program including: Homeowners or Renters Tax Relief Program, CT Energy Assistance Program, SNAP or Medicaid. Applications are available in the office.
