Sixteen members of the Granby Artists’ Association have been busy making fine art and craft in preparation for its annual Open Studio Tour October 15 and 16. The artists exhibit their work in home studios throughout the area and at Lost Acres Vineyard. The tour has become a Granby tradition that showcases the breadth of talented artists who live and work in town. Visitors to the tour will have the opportunity to watch live demonstrations and to view, discuss, and purchase art.
New members on this year’s tour are Barb Schmitt (chainsaw carving/ photography), Scott Duncan (woodturning) and Karen Hudson (painting and drawing). Now in their second year, Mark Gottlieb and Annukka Ritalahti will open their Silver Street Glass Studio to the public with live glassblowing and lampworking demonstrations. They will also have exquisite blown and stained glass for sale. At Debby Reelitz’s studio you can bring words that are special for you (12 words or less), pick from a wide range of wonderful papers, and she will create a calligraphic piece right there for you on the background of your choice!
Jean-Luc Goddard will be unveiling a large-scale outdoor sculpture and also a brand new style of lighted sculpture. Laura Eden will exhibit her truly unique egg tempera paintings, which are a response to quiet moments spent in nature’s grasp. Bill Simpson will feature a series of charcoal drawings recently displayed in a three-month showing at the Springfield Museums, new aerial paintings and older landscape paintings. Sally Sargent Markey will display her beautifully drawn paintings and watercolors, and works in fimo clay. Bob Burns will exhibit new work inspired by his New England travels and Granby’s own Holcomb Farm.

Lori Catlin Garcia will be at Lost Acres Vineyard with jewelry featuring sparkling handmade dichroic glass beads. She will be joined by painter Pam Jones, who returns to the tour with new work, and Alex Anisimov, who will feature paintings inspired by the sea.

She will be in her home studio along with Linda Yuracevecz featuring Raku and Saggar fired pieces alongside the expected reduction-fired stoneware.

The Granby Artists’ Association is active in the community, sponsoring a variety of activities throughout the year. Fall is welcomed in with the Open Studio Tour, and it partners with the Granby Land Trust for their Annual Paint-Out and Juried Art Show. December brings two events, the Holiday Gift Show as well as the Winter Wonders Show. In the Spring, artists and children of all ages gather for a Hands On Art Fun Day at Holcomb Farm Learning Center. Many members share their talents through demonstrations in schools and at senior centers in the Granby area. The group also awards a scholarship to a deserving college bound GMHS Senior art student each spring.
