The Farmington Valley Chorale invites all singers to join its members in an open Sing In of choruses from Mendelssohn’s great oratorio, Elijah, on Sunday, August 14, at 3-5 p.m. The 100-member chorale, under the direction of Dr. Ellen Gilson Voth, is beginning preparations for a Spring 2017 performance of Elijah. “This is an exciting way for us to kick off our Elijah year,” said Chorale President, Lorna Wright. “We hope that the opportunity to perform this monumental piece will attract singers from all over the region to join us.”
The chorale has been performing classical choral music for the communities of the Farmington Valley since 1970. Current members include Granby residents Peter Barwick, Carol Bressor, Judith Burhans, John and Carolyn Flint, Helen Hogan, Elaine Lydon, Debby Siegel and Kenneth Way.
The Sing In event will take place at Avon’s Valley Community Baptist Church at 590 West Avon Road with free parking, air-conditioning and easy access. Music scores and light refreshments will be provided. Suggested donation is $5. Visit the chorale’s website farmingtonvalleychorale.org for more information.
