Granby pets featured in 2015 animal calendars

Many a pet owner has thought his adorable furry friend was worthy of gracing a page in a national calendar. Two Granby families may now claim that honor.

Scout, a golden retriever rescued by Tom and Patty Sawyer in 2012, will be featured as Mr. September in the 2015 calendar produced by the Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue organization. The calendar is available at Petco stores across New England, Dogology in Canton, the Kuttery in Windsor Locks, Tim’s Automotive in Granby and on the rescue website, www.ygrr.org. All proceeds from calendar sales will fund YGRR efforts.

The YGRR was founded in 1985, and is located on a 21-acre property, Riverview, in Hudson, Mass.  As a centralized rescue, adoption and education center, YGRR provides comprehensive medical care, behavioral evaluations and adoptive homes to homeless golden retrievers throughout New England. To date, the organization has found “forever” homes for over 5,000 dogs.

Gus and Sam are identical tiger cats rescued by Sandy Strain in 2011 when they were just kittens. The two are featured in Workman Publishing’s 2015 Bad Cat calendar for November 23. The page-a-day calendars are sold at many retailers, including bookstores, office supply stores, and kiosks at the mall. They are also available online at www.workman.com
