The Granby Food Bank Program would like to thank all of the donors who make a significant difference in its ability to offer food assistance to qualified Granby residents.
In addition to a number of individual and business donations, the program is extremely grateful to the Granby Youth Lacrosse team members for giving back to the community with a $500 contribution to the Granby Food Bank, and to the sixth grade students at The Bear Paw Store at Kelly Lane School who chose to donate $450 of the profit from their student-run store. Granby Memorial High School’s National Honor Society’s annual Empty Bowls fundraiser yielded an incredible $1,944.60 for the Food Bank. Most recently, Super Stop & Shop Store Manager Christine Willett presented Nancy Scheetz, executive director of the Farmington Valley VNA, with a $1306.83 check.
During the Fiscal Year that ended on June 30, the Granby Food Bank program received 1,386 visits and distributed 2,389 bags of food. When donations of non-perishable foods, household cleaning products, personal care items, and pet food run low, monetary donations are utilized to restock the shelves to ensure that program participants have access to essential nutrition.
Effective Aug. 10, non-perishable donations will be accepted at the Granby Food Bank, located at 248 Salmon Brook Street, on Tuesdays between 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Thursdays between 2– 3:30 p.m. or by appointment, by calling 860-653-5514.
An additional drop box is located in the Granby Senior Center at 15C North Granby Road. Donations may be brought there weekdays from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
If you are making a donation on behalf of a group or organization, such as a residential community, school association, sporting team, church ministry, scout troop, or civic club, the program would love to arrange for a photo opportunity when your donation is delivered, in order to publicize your efforts on its web and social media sites and in local news publications. Please call 860-653-5514 to schedule a drop-off.
On behalf of those who presently participate in the volunteer-run Granby Food Bank Program, thank you for your previous, ongoing, and future support of this important community resource
