The Abigail Phelps Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution of Simsbury was proud to present to several local residents and businesses certificates of award signed by the President General NSDAR, Mrs. Lynn Forney Young, for proper use, correct display and patriotic presentation of the flag of the United States of America.
On August 27, Joan Anderson, Chapter Chairman of the Flag of the United States Committee, along with member Nancy Mellow, visited five locations to present the awards. The certificates were presented to three homeowners on Granville Road in Granby. Kevin Harter and his son Owen, James and Caroline Caldwell and Caroline Ericksen received certificates. Certificates were also presented to Virginia Wutka at the Lost Acres Orchard in North Granby and to Chris Piteo, General Sales Manager at Bertera Suburu in Hartford. All those being recognized were surprised and delighted to receive these awards.
One of the goals of the National Society of the DAR is to foster patriotic citizenship. Chapters do this by distributing American Flags, flag pins, flag code leaflets and presenting certificates to individuals, groups and businesses that display the American Flag.
