CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and it is the best way to support your local farm and improve your own health. CSA members pay wholesale prices before the season begins, giving the farm much-needed income to purchase seeds, supplies and hire staff, and guaranteeing members a weekly supply of fresh vegetables from June to October.
Beyond Organic ….
Our growing methods are best described as holistic. We are not “certified” organic because our standards far exceed those of certification. We use no GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), no synthetic fertilizers, no pesticides, no fungicides and no herbicides—not even the “Organically Approved” ones. Some of these “Organic” shortcuts are highly toxic to pollinators, plants and people. Our choice is to take the slow, steady road of building our soils each year (with leaves, compost, wood chips, cover crops, minerals, trace elements). Every decision made on the farm has to improve the soil and the life in it. As long as we do that, happy plants will grow and a truly healthy harvest will be at hand.
For the 20-week 2015 summer season, the price is $575 or $28.75 per week. The season begins June 16. Produce pick-ups are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Holcomb Farm CSA.
For deliveries to West Hartford, Simsbury and Canton, visit the web site for information on Box Shares times and locations.
Summer crops include lettuce, onions, herbs, eggplant, tomatoes, scallions, arugula, tomatillos, hot peppers, broccoli, melons, cabbage, parsley, radishes, turnips, celery, spinach, parsnips, fennel, kale, chard, basil, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, winter squash, beets, leeks, sweet potatoes, sweet peppers … basically, we grow every vegetable that can survive in our climate, except for sweet corn.
Our produce and the best of the region’s local farm products are available for purchase at the Farm Store. Buy a picking pass for access to all our Pick-Your-Own beds, such as cherry tomatoes, beans and flowers.
Winter CSA Shares will provide monthly winter pick-ups of roots, greens and more. Winter shares are limited, so summer share members get priority enrollment opportunities.
