Party/Event Planning

The Salmon Brook Park House is a beautiful facility with a kitchen, patio, multi-purpose function room featuring a gas fireplace and central A/C, accommodating up to 99 people. The new North Barn Pavilion at Holcomb Farm is open. Built to look like a barn, this gorgeous new building has all of the modern amenities for a special event, up to 125 people. Make an appointment today for a tour of both facilities, then reserve for your next party or social event.

Youth Enrichment

Music time with Miss Carrie: Children ages 6 months to 4 years (with caregiver) will enjoy learning basic melody, finger play, rhythm skills, dancing and music and movement in this entertaining atmosphere. Join Carrie Johnson to start your toddler’s day with singing, dancing, laughter and especially fun. Thursdays, Sept. 10 to Oct. 22, 10 – 11 a.m. $125pp. Next session will be Oct. 29 to Dec. 17.

Super Soccer Sundays: The Granby Recreation Dept. is excited to offer this fun and educational sports program for children ages 3 – 5, with caregiver. Have fun spending quality time with your child as you participate in soccer related drills, games and fun! This program is held at Salmon Brook Park in front of the Band Shell. Sept. 13 to Oct. 25, either 9 – 9:50 a.m. or 10 – 10:50 a.m. $85pp.

Fall After-school Field Hockey Clinics: For grades 3 to 6. No experience necessary. Develop fundamental skills with drills and scrimmages designed to teach stick handling, passing, receiving, dribbling and basic game play. The Kelly Lane program will be coached by the 5th grade teacher and former field hockey player Mrs. Laflamme. All participants must supply their own mouth guards, sticks, balls, cleats and shin guards. Bring lots of water! New players: when going to a sports store to buy equipment, provide two measurements for correct size stick: from hipbone-to-floor and height. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 15 to Oct. 20, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. $60pp.

Where the Wild Things Art, for grades K–2: Art adventures explore many whimsical and original art forms and techniques, discovering clay and collage, painting and drawing, mask-making and decorating, just to name a few. Sculpt colorful monsters and clay pots, design ceramic robots and awesome airplanes, decorate birdhouses and wooden guitars, create fireworks t-shirts, and so much more. Hear wonderful stories, such as Where the Wild Things Are or Nova the Robot, that go hand in hand-in-hand with each project. Humor and surprises are always included. Explore, experiment, create! Art adventurers bring home awesome works of art each week. Fridays, Sept. 25 to Oct. 30, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. with supervision provided from 3:10, bring a nut-free snack. Held at Kearns School. $95pp. Next session is Nov. 13 to Jan. 15; sign up for both sessions for only $174.

Are We There Yet? World Treasures Art-ventures: In this multicultural art exploration program, young art travelers (grades 3 – 6) jet from continent to continent, and discover amazing art secrets hidden all across the globe. Borrowing from Native American art traditions, craft colorful Shrinky Dink sun catchers and sculpt All About Me clay totem poles. Create people pots with feet and funny faces, inspired by ancient pottery found everywhere from Congo to Peru and beyond. Design intricate, eyecatching Mehndi art gloves in India and bold “repujado” (metal embossing) masterpieces in Mexico. Make Aboriginal clay masks, and try a special kind of Italian scratch art, called sgraffito. Artventurers experience a multitude of materials and techniques, and bring home two and threedimensional masterpieces each week as souvenirs from their travels. Fun facts about each country and culture are included. The only thing kids need to pack is their imaginations! Children from other schools are invited but transportation is not provided. At Wells Road School, Sept. 30 – Nov. 18, 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. $125pp. An after school art program at Kelly Lane will begin in late January.

Adult Activities

Clear the Clutter: This six-week program provides participants (ages 18 and up) with tools, resources, and realistic weekly goals for taking control of their cluttered spaces (home, office, etc.). Each week you will leave motivated and supported to tackle your goal with an over-arching program goal of reducing stress levels associated with a cluttered space. There will be handouts and worksheets to take home. Held at Holcomb Farm, Sept. 2 – Oct. 7, 6:30 – 8 p.m. $60pp.

Elementary Spanish for Adults: For the individual looking to begin studying Spanish, brush up on language skills learned many years ago or prepare for a dream vacation to a Spanish speaking country. Classes offer a basic introduction to Spanish grammar, vocabulary development, pronunciation, and conversation skills. No prior experience required. Text to be determined by instructor at first class; small additional fee payable to instructor may be required. The same text will be used in the Intermediate class for those who choose to continue with the class. Held at Granby Memorial High School, Mondays, Sept. 14 – Dec. 7, 6 – 7:30 p.m. $107pp.

Intermediate Spanish for Adults: This class picks up where Elementary Spanish left off, continuing with practice of Spanish grammar, writing, conversation, culture, and readings. Text to be determined by instructor at first class; small additional fee payable to instructor may be required. Prerequisite: Elementary Spanish or comparable knowledge. Held at Granby Memorial High School, Mondays, Sept. 14 – Dec. 7, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. $107pp.

Elementary Italian for Adults: This course is for the individual looking to begin studying Italian, brush up on language skills learned many years ago or perhaps to prepare for that dream vacation to Italy. Elementary French for Adults: This course is for the individual looking to begin studying French, brush up on language skills learned many years ago or prepare for a dream vacation to a French speaking country. Classes offer a basic introduction to French grammar, vocabulary development, pronunciation and conversation skills. No prior experience required. The text is French is Fun, cost $20 payable to instructor by cash/check at the first class. The same text will be used in the Intermediate class next spring for those who choose to continue with the class. Held at Granby Memorial High School, Mondays, Sept. 14 – Dec. 7, 6 – 7:30 p.m. $107pp.

Trips

NYC – On Your Own: These days in the city are yours to enjoy the Big Apple. See Chinatown, Little Italy, Central Park, a museum, the zoo, a Broadway show or shop. The usual drop-off points in the City are The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Plaza Hotel, and Rockefeller Center. Pickup time is 7 p.m. in front of Stage Deli, Broadway and 53rd Street. Saturdays, Oct. 3 and Dec. 5. $40pp.
