The Board of Selectmen and Lions Club members gathered on the town green on June 6 for the official presentation of the club’s gift of the new gazebo. First Selectman Scott Kuhnly remarked that the structure is a wonderful addition to the center. He noted that First Selectmen from neighboring towns have commented on the attractive addition.
Lions Club President Bob Merrick said that the club wanted to do a long-lasting project for the community and the gazebo seemed to be the perfect choice. The group worked with Town Manager Bill Smith and Public Works Director Kirk Severance to make the concept a reality. Town residents Al and Dean Christensen did the site work and Kurt Johnson installed the pavers around the purchased gazebo.

The gift of the gazebo is the latest in the Lions’ long record of service to the town. Its many activities include providing scholarships to graduating Granby Memorial High School seniors, eye exams to school children, holding a Christmas tree sale every year, and an annual bird seed sale every fall. It purchased a trailer for the high school robotics team and provides assistance to Granby residents in times of need.
Plans are underway to add electricity to the structure for night time enjoyment.
