Italian Night

Oh, Che Una Notte!

By Shirley Warn

If you were not at the Senior Center on Thursday evening, May 28, you missed a “bella serata” —a beautiful evening. After the delicious and filling pasta dinner, complete with coffee and dessert, I was ready for an evening of good fun, laughter and song. I was not disappointed.

The evening’s entertainment was provided by Ashly Cruz, an internationally-known cabaret-style singer, who regaled us all with some favorite popular tunes as well as romantic, sometimes fun, Italian songs that complemented the aura of Italian Night at the Senior Center. The songs were beautifully sung, with Ashly occasionally asking for a little help from us, the diners. Voices were raised, tambourines and maracas were shaking, boas were swinging in the air, with a high kick thrown in here and there, as everyone was happy to join in the merriment of the evening.

At the end of the night, I departed with a smile on my face, a song in my heart, (a full tummy!), and maybe just a little bit more Italian spirit in my blood. By the looks on their faces, I think many other guests were feeling the same way. Oh, what a night! Grazie!!
