The Granby Land Trust, Granby Agricultural Commission, and Granby Artists Association have partnered to create a map showing local hiking trails, farms and art studios where you can get fresh. Get fresh food, fresh air, and a fresh perspective, that is right here in beautiful Granby.
Lost Acres Vineyard’s Michelle Niedermeyer and the Granby Land Trust’s President Rick Orluk spearheaded the creation of the map. They have worked together for years to support land preservation, working farms, and the local art community, most notably through the annual GLT Art Show that takes place at Lost Acres Vineyard each fall, and their Buy Local campaign that encourages area residents to buy locally-grown food whenever possible. The Granby Artists Association was happy to join in the effort, and the resulting map is the result of this collaboration.
The map gives the location and operating hours for a number of Granby’s farms and art studios, as well as the locations of the town’s very best hiking trails. For the last few years, the Agricultural Commission has created a map of the town’s farms. This year, the Granby Land Trust helped us to take things to a new level. This new map is a guide to some of the things that make this town special. I think whether you’re visiting from out-of-town or someone who has lived in Granby for 30 years, you’ll discover something new to do in Granby when you look at this map.
“The Granby Land Trust was enthusiastic about investing in this effort,” said Orluk. “For a small town, Granby really has a lot to offer. We are proud of our town’s agricultural roots and of the number, and variety of working farms in operation. We have an abundance of preserved land, making it easy for people to enjoy the outdoors. And our local artists are incredibly talented. This map showcases much of what makes our town unique.”
The map can be found on the Granby Land Trust website (www.granbylandtrust.org). Printed copies can be found at Town Hall, the local libraries and at various businesses throughout town.
