Granby Rovers Fall 2016 Registration
Registration for the Fall 2016 season of the Granby Rovers Soccer Club will be April 1–22 for players born on or before Dec. 31, 2008. The Granby Rovers Soccer Club is a travel soccer program offering a higher level of play than recreation soccer. Please see the Granby Rovers Website at www.granbyrovers.com for more information and registration link. Please note that registration does not guarantee a spot on a team as there is an assessment process.
 
MS Support
A support group for those with multiple sclerosis meets the second and fourth Monday of each month, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Granby Senior Center. Significant others and caregivers are welcome to attend. For more information call 860-653-1986 or 860-428-2463.

Blood Pressure Screenings
The Farmington Valley VNA’s free blood pressure screenings are available without appointment Tuesday, April 5, 9–10:30 a.m. at the YMCA in Granby; Monday, April 4, 11 a.m.–noon, at East Granby Senior Center, and 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at East Hartland Town Hall; Monday, April 18, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., at First Church Parish, East Hartland; Thursdays, April 7, 14, 21 and 28, 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., at Granby Senior Center.
 
Swedish Pancake Breakfast and More
The youth from Pilgrim Covenant Church are hosting a Swedish Pancake Breakfast and Scandinavian Bake Sale on Saturday, April 2, 8 – 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Covenant Church, 605 Salmon Brook Street, just before the Mass. state line. This is a donation breakfast benefiting the youth groups. Swedish pancakes, bacon, sausage and breakfast beverages will be served. Delicious Scandinavian and other home-baked goods will be available for sale.
The Senior High Youth Group (grades 9–12) meets Thursdays, 7 to 9 p.m., and the Middle School Youth Group (grades 6–8) meets Wednesdays, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the church. Youth Pastor Matt Gillis can be reached at 860-392-8160.
Camera Club

Women’s breakfast
On Wednesday, April 6, Margery Winters from the Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton will present a very timely program entitled Connecticut’s Amazing Wildflowers. The program is being sponsored by the Granby Women’s Breakfast Group, will be held at the Granby Senior Center. Breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m.; the program begins at 9 a.m. Treat yourself to a fun and interesting hour and a half. Cost is $3. Call Corinne Dickerson at 860-653-9891 to reserve your spot.
 
Hartt Collegium Musicum Concert
Baroque violinist Emlyn Ngai and the Hartt Collegium Musicum return to the Bruce Porter Memorial Music Series on Sunday, April 10, at 4 p.m. for another performance of orchestral and vocal masterpieces of the 17th and 18th centuries played in period style. South Church is at 242 Salmon Brook St. Admission to the concerts is free. Donations are welcome.  The church is wheelchair accessible from the side entrance.

Legion Pancake Breakfast
The American Legion will hold its famous pancake breakfast on Saturday, April 9, from 6 a.m. until noon at the Post Hall, 244 North Granby Road. The date coincides with the opening of fishing season. The breakfast features genuine fancy-grade Vermont maple syrup along with choice bacon and special pancakes. Proceeds will fund the Legion scholarships for Granby Memorial High School.
 
Life at the Farm
The Granby Civic Club will hold it’s next meeting on Thursday, April 21 at 1 p.m. in the Senior Center. Our guest speaker will be Joe O’Grady, farm manager of the Holcomb Farm in West Granby. Joe will provide us with an update about what’s going on at the farm: community events which include many classes, concerts, etc; the Fresh Access program and how it benefits many of our own Granby residents; information on how to be a Friend of the Farm; gardening tips and so much more. Negro spiritual concert
The First Congregational Church of Granby will host a choral festival at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 23 to share and celebrate the importance of Negro spirituals. Joined by guest conductor Dr. Vernon Huff, the choirs of First Congregational Church, South Congregational Church and Old Saint Andrews Episcopal Church will combine to present a powerful and exciting evening of high-energy music. Each choir will sing spirituals individually and collaborate in a set of historic spirituals with solos by tenor Jerron Jorgensen and sopranos Dr. Christi McLain and Lisabeth Miller. Admission is free with a free-will offering accepted at the door. This event is family friendly and the First Church sanctuary is wheelchair accessible.
 
Blessing of the Mounts
West Granby United Methodist Church at 87 Simsbury Road, will hold a Blessing of the Mounts on Sunday, April 24 at 1 p.m. This is a special prayer for the riding season and for local farms, for the health of our horses and other animals.  Blessing of the  Bicycles
 Do you ride to win on a Trek or ride down the driveway on a Big Wheel? It doesn’t matter what type of bike you ride, two wheels or three or even a unicycle! The young and the not-so-young are invited to West Granby United Methodist Church where Pastor Peter Preiser will hold a very special Blessing of the Bicycles on Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m. This will be followed by a group ride and lunch. Mega Tag Sale
Valley Pre-School will be holding a tag sale fundraiser on Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m.– 3 p.m. at its location, 219 North Granby Road. Early birds may shop from 8:30 – 9 a.m. for a $10 admission. Items for sale will include but are not limited to clothing, housewares, toys, baby gear, sports and outdoor equipment, tools, books, movies, music, small appliances and some furniture. 4-H Pancake Breakfast
Come join us for Granby 4-H’s annual Pancake Breakfast! On Saturday, May 21, from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the South Congregational Church of Granby. There will be delicious breakfast fare with coffee, tea and juice. Cost for adults is $8; seniors and children ages 3-12, $6; no cost for children under 3. Come support a club that strives to better the community and empower youth through educational programs and community service.
 
Granville Art Show
The 24th annual Granville Art Show will be held April 30 and May 1 at the Old Meeting House in Granville, Mass. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Sunday will feature music by James Weber beginning at 2 p.m., with the artists’ reception at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
 
Ray Allen announces fifth annual youth basketball camp
Nine-time All-Star and former UConn All-American Guard Ray Allen has announced the dates and location of his fifth annual youth basketball camp. The two-day Ray Allen Basketball ProCamp presented by SunnyD will be held on August 6 and 7, from 9 a.m. –Noon, at East Granby High School. Participants will learn fundamental basketball skills and have the opportunity to meet and interact with the basketball legend. Each camper will receive an autograph from Ray and a team photo with Ray. Allen will be on-site to direct the event and will be joined by a selection of prep and college coaches from the area.
The camp is open to boys and girls of all skill levels in grades 1-12. Cost of the camp is $249. The camp’s premier partner is Welch’s Fruit Snacks, and event partners include Citi, Everlast and Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation.
