Holcomb Farm, Granby Land Trust co-host tick talk

Dr. Kirby C. Stafford III, Chief Scientist and State Entomologist at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, will give a “tick talk” on Thursday, June 8 at 7 p.m. in the North Barn at Holcomb Farm. This event is open to the public and admission is free.
Dr. Stafford will talk about ticks, particularly the black-legged tick (or deer tick), their biology, life cycle, and the diseases they may carry, such as Lyme disease, babesiosis, anaplasma, and erlichiosis. He will also cover personal and property protection measures, bite prevention, tick removal, and the effectiveness of various repellents. 
Dr. Stafford is a medical-veterinary entomologist. His research and writing focuses on the ecology and control of the black-legged tick. He has worked at the Experiment Station for more than 30 years. 
Holcomb Farm’s North Barn is located at 113 Simsbury Road in West Granby.
