Commission on Aging: Monday, Feb. 13, 9:30 a.m. The Commission on Aging proposes and evaluates programs and services for the elderly in the community, and assists the town staff in the development, initiation, coordination and implementation of programs and services for the elderly. Meetings are open to the public.
Introduction to Drawing with Ink Washes: Monday, Feb. 6, 9 – 10:15 a.m. Try something new with Elena Pavlova in this introduction to the basic principles of light and shade in a drawing. Learn how to capture subject matter using ink washes and a sponge to quickly delineate form, carefully block in shadows and major dark masses to create a bold statement and identify light and shadow division to create a believable illusion of space. Add detail using brushes to create final ink drawing. Cost $15 (materials included).
AARP Tax Assistance: By appointment on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning mid-February. AARP Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free, tax assistance and preparation service. Trained volunteer professionals will assist those 60 years and over with Form 1040 and the standard schedules, including A and B. Electronic filing is available. Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance: Tuesday, Feb. 14, 5 p.m. Not just for sweethearts, bring a friend and enjoy an evening out. Hit the dance floor to the delightful sounds of the Airbourne Jazz band, returning with their award-winning sounds of cool jazz and island music. The menu includes homemade lasagna, house salad and cheesy toasted garlic bread and dessert. Please register by Feb. 5. Cost is $8pp.
Helping Hands Needed: Wednesday, Feb. 22, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Please join Days for Girls Internationally (www.daysforgirls.org) sewing for women in need of sanitary products around the world. For this project to be a success the group is looking for both sewers and non-sewers to volunteer their help. Please help make a positive difference for others in need. Healthy Minds: By appointment. Coping with life’s transitions may not be easy; situations such as the death of a loved one, failing health, strained family relationships or the stress of deciding to leave a home that is too big to manage can be daunting to face alone. Working through feelings of isolation, anxiety, abandonment or failure may ease your mind. On Grief and Loss: Second and fourth Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Whether your loss is recent or was long ago, you will find support, information and strategies for helping you with the grieving process. Facilitated by Jane Johnson, Granby resident and creator of Bryan’s Landing and the Our Children’s Garden in Salmon Brook Park.

Focus On Support
Alzheimer’s Support Group for Caregivers and Their Loved Ones: Tuesday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m. While a caregiver is in the support group there will be a supervised activity for your loved one in the next room. Caring for a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer’s can be overwhelming. Learning to cope with the changes in their behavior, changes in your relationship with them, and understanding how to handle it all is sometimes best explained by those who are dealing with a similar situation. Led by Peggy Coburn of the Alzheimer’s Association.
MS Support Group: Second and fourth Monday at 1 p.m. This is a self help group for persons with Multiple Sclerosis and their caregivers.
Grandparent Support Group: Thursdays at 12 p.m. This is a group for grandparents who are raising children.
CHOICES Counselor: Third Wednesday of the month. Do you need help in understanding Medicare and its supplements? Our counselor will help you weigh the medical plan options to find the right plan for your needs. Call to schedule an appointment. Free.
Medical Equipment Loaner Closet: If you are ever in need of a wheelchair, walker, cane, tub seat or other durable medical equipment contact 860-844-5352. Donations accepted.

Focus On Staying Fit
Classes are available six days a week at the Senior Center, classes are ongoing. Contact the office at 860-844-5350 for a registration forms or to discuss which class best fits your abilities and needs. Drop in $8.
Beginning Tai Chi: Mondays at 9 a.m. One of the best exercises for balance and fall prevention, Tai Chi provides concentrated breathing, balance, postural alignment and meditation in a relaxed atmosphere. Instructor, Judy Laiuppa.
Yoga Flow: Mondays at 10:15 a.m. Rise and shine with this gentle, yet effective, yoga flow class. Instructor, Mary Fuller.
Gentle Movement and Balance: Mondays at 11:15 a.m. An exercise class designed to increase strength, balance, flexibility and coordination. This class will also focus on improving voice power, speech clarity and could possibly help individuals with Parkinson’s delay progression of their symptoms and take steps to leading a full life. Instructor, Paula Pirog.
Cardio and Strength: Mondays at 4:30 p.m. Combination of aerobics and strength training to give you a total body workout. Instructor, Mary Fuller.
Weight Training for Women: Tuesdays at 9 a.m. Use hand-held weights, medicine balls and resistance bands to increase muscle tone and build stamina. Instructor, Jen Dzielak
Chair Yoga: Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m. Enhanced breathing, increased blood flow, reduced tension and better posture are achieved through the various yoga poses. Great for those with limited mobility! Instructor, Paula Pirog.
Yoga: Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. Thoughtful breathing and controlled postures. Instructor, Paula Pirog.
Tone-up Tune-up: Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. Move to the music of the 50s, 60s and 70s. This is a low impact cardiovascular workout with intervals of weight work for upper and lower body strengthening. Exercise your brain and your body while learning simple movement patterns and laughing with friends. This workout does not go to the floor; core training performed seated or standing. Instructor, Mary Fuller.
Full Body Workout: Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. This class is designed with a combination of aerobics and strength with more muscle work with weights. Instructor, Gina Marecki.
Pilates Fusion: Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. This high energy fusion workout focuses on core strengthening and total body sculpting. Set to popular music, this class uses light weights to strengthen and define the upper body while Pilates and ballet-inspired exercises target the lower body and core. Form is emphasized with no prior experience needed. Instructor, Mary Fuller.
Advanced Tai Chi: Fridays at 9 a.m. Those who wish to take Advanced Tai Chi should speak with Instructor, Judy Laiuppa.
Cardio Combo: Fridays at 10:15 a.m. Quicker pace and more aerobics. Instructor, Mary Fuller.
Peak: Sundays at 7:30 a.m. Vigorous aerobics and weights. Instructor, Jen Dzielak.
Camera Club: First Monday at 7 p.m. Annual membership is $10.
Senior Club: First Thursday at 1 p.m. Annual membership is $3. Actively seeking new members to join in making a difference in the community. Please come to the meeting with your ideas.

The Granby Senior Van provides rides to adults 60 and over for shopping and activities at the Senior Center. Please call 860-844-5353 one week in advance for scheduling. All persons who use the van must have paid their van fee for the year and obtain updated membership. Van fees are $10 for the year and memberships are $5 for a Granby resident and $10 for non-residents.
Bernie’s Dining Depot and Winter Drive: Wednesday, Feb. 1, departs 10:15 a.m. Located in Chicopee, Mass and known for their massive prime rib and seafood platters. People really like the portions, the prices and the taste. We will take a leisurely winter drive home. Snow date is Feb. 10. Cost $4 for the ride.
Barkers Character, Comic and Cartoon Museum: Wednesday, Feb. 15, departs 10 a.m. This Cheshire museum contains one of the most complete expressions of an American childhood through the years. It houses over 80,000 items reflecting the everyday life of childhood from the latter 19th century to the present day. There will be a guided tour. Cost $8 for van and tour.
